The town of Murphy serves as the headquarters
for one of the most popular and colorful Jeep Jamborees which
is located in the Great Smoky Mountains. Spring and Autumn in
the Nantahala
and Cherokee National Forests is awe inspiring. Old logging
roads provide numerous challenges for both novice and seasoned
off-road enthusiasts. Experience rock climbing, hill climbing,
and stream crossing in pristine forest exploding with fall color
or blooming with the rich greens of spring.
You don't have to wait for the Jeep Jamboree to enjoy the off road
fun. The
Upper Tellico ORV Area is famous for some of the best 4x4
trail riding in all of America and challenge offroaders of all
experience levels. Trail names like Guardrail, Helicopter Pad,
Slick Rock and School Bus all conjure up visions of adventurous
steep hills and adrenaline pumping fun. The Tellico Area is
a fee access area. The cost is $5.00 per day/vehicle payable
at the Forest Service entrance station. The station is operated
on the honor system, the correct change or check will do. The
money collected here is used to keep the trails open for all
of us. Southern Four Wheel Drive Association (SFWDA) maintains
the Tellico ORV trail system and contributes thousands of dollars
and man-hours to this endeavor each year. If it weren't for
their efforts in conjunction with the Forest Service, we wouldn't
have this area to enjoy. Please do not litter or drive off the
established trails. Tow hooks are mandatory.

A weekend of family fun
and challenging trail riding experience in the beautiful Smoky
Mountains of western North Carolina. Upper
Tellico ORV Area is located on National Forest lands in the Nantahala
National Forest. This weekend fun-fest is put
on by the Southern
Four Wheel Drive Association. Please help support this
great group of volunteers who help to keep this awesome trail
open. Some
of the things offered that weekend are:
- Guided trail rides on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
- Camping in headquarters campground (or stay in a local motel).
- Live band on Friday night.
- Dinner on Saturday night.
- Kids games and contests.
- Dash plaque and other goodies for your 4x4.
- Trophies awarded for events.
- Raffle for donated prizes.
